1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, remember your preferences, and provide basic analytics to site operators.
Cookies are not programs — they cannot execute code, carry viruses, or access files on your device. They simply store a small piece of text that your browser sends back to the site on subsequent visits.
Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and service worker caches. These serve analogous purposes and are covered by this policy.
2. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Authentication — to keep you logged in across page loads and browser sessions;
- Security — to protect your account from cross-site request forgery (CSRF) and session hijacking;
- Preferences — to remember your chosen theme (dark or light mode) and display settings;
- Performance — to cache static assets via the service worker so the platform loads faster on repeat visits;
- Analytics — to understand in aggregate how features are used, so we can improve the platform.
We do not use cookies to build behavioral profiles, retarget you with ads across other websites, or track you beyond your session on Connect.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
| Cookie / Key | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
connect_token |
Stores your authentication JWT to keep you signed in | 7 days (or until sign-out) | Required |
connect_theme |
Remembers your preferred color scheme (dark / light) | 1 year | Preference |
| Service Worker cache | Caches static assets (CSS, JS, images) for faster load times and offline support | Until cache is invalidated on update | Required |
| Analytics identifier | A random, non-identifiable token used to count unique visitors in our self-hosted analytics — not linked to your account | 90 days | Analytics |
stripe_mid / stripe_sid |
Set by Stripe on the Advertiser Portal billing page to prevent fraud during payment processing | Session / 1 year | Required (Advertiser Portal only) |
4. Third-Party Cookies
Connect does not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising network cookies. The only third-party cookies that may be set are:
Stripe
When you use the Advertiser Portal billing features, Stripe may set cookies on the js.stripe.com domain to detect fraud and ensure secure payment processing. These cookies are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. They are only present if you visit the billing section of the Advertiser Portal.
No Advertising Networks
Connect does not load Facebook, Google Ads, TikTok, or any other advertising SDK. No third-party advertising cookies are set on the main platform.
5. Local Storage & Session Storage
In addition to cookies, Connect uses browser local storage and session storage to improve your experience:
- Local storage — stores your authentication token, draft post content, and UI state (e.g., sidebar position, collapsed threads) so these persist between visits without requiring a server round-trip;
- Session storage — stores temporary state for the current browser tab (e.g., scroll position, form data) that is cleared when the tab is closed;
- Service Worker cache — stores a snapshot of static assets to enable faster loads and basic offline access. The cache is versioned and automatically cleared when we release an update.
Unlike cookies, local storage data is never sent to our servers automatically — it stays on your device and is only read by our JavaScript code.
6. Managing Your Cookies
Browser Controls
You can manage, block, or delete cookies through your browser settings. Here are links to cookie management guides for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Impact of Blocking Cookies
Blocking or deleting cookies will affect your Connect experience:
- Required cookies blocked — you will not be able to log in or stay authenticated;
- Preference cookies blocked — your theme and settings will reset on every visit;
- Analytics cookies blocked — no impact on your experience; the platform functions fully without them.
Clearing Local Storage
To clear local storage and service worker caches, open your browser's developer tools, navigate to Application → Storage, and use the "Clear site data" option. Note that this will sign you out of Connect.
7. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing not be tracked. Connect already does not engage in cross-site tracking, so our behavior does not change based on whether a DNT signal is received. We treat all users the same: no behavioral advertising, no cross-site tracking, no data selling.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new features that introduce new cookies or storage technologies. When we make material changes, we will post a notice on the platform and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
